Devious, dangerous infections

If, you see a window pop up on the bottom-right of your screen that looks legitimate and is telling you your computer has all kinds of infections. This is NOT a message from your Antivirus program. You should regard this warning as UNTRUE.

The source of this warning is an attempt to scare you into installing something that will actually infect your computer. If you click on anything related to it (even the X in the upper right corner), you are likely to start the installation of the virus.

Use the Task Manager that I have previously described under Closing windows when they don’t seem to close the usual way. Right-click (right-handers) on the task bar where there are no buttons or icons, choose Task Manager.  Under the Application tab, select the nasty item, then click End Task at the bottom.

If that does not work, you will need to shut down by using the ON button on the face of your computer. Hold it in for 5 to 10 seconds until you hear the fans shut down, then restart. This is not recommended practice, but may be the only way to avoid the actual infection.
