DVD drive failing

DVD reader/writers are common failure points in your PC.

If yours is a desktop computer:

Pretty easy.  About $20.  Shutdown your computer.  Remove the power cord.  Hold the ON button in for at least 7 seconds. Open the computer.  You will find the DVD drive.  Remove the two screws that hold it in place.  Remove the two plugs in the back.  Reverse the procedure to install.  Startup.  The machine will automatically install the drivers it needs.

If yours is a laptop:

The DVD drive is proprietary and specific to your make and model.  Your only source is the OEM of your computer.  The replacement will be pricey, and probably easy to replace.  An alternative is to buy an external USB connected DVD drive for about $25.  It has an advantage in that it is portable to any computer.
